#wcw | Daisy Ridley

A relative unknown until recently, Daisy Ridley caused quite a stir earlier this week when she appeared as Rey in the final trailer for Star Wars: The Force Awakens.

The great-niece of English actor and playwright Arnold Ridley, Daisy has appeared in a handful of shorts and feature films, as well as a few notable series including BBC’s Mr. Selfridge.

Due largely to her obscurity as well as her talent, it is believed that director J.J. Abrams hand selected Ridley for this breakout role last February before formally announcing her involvement with the project in late April. In keeping with the tradition of creator George Lucas’ earliest films, Abrams purposefully sought to cast less notable actors as leads in this, the highly anticipated 7th installment of the beloved franchise.

Though little has been confirmed about Ridley’s character, whose voice can be heard throughout the entire 2 1/2 minute tease of The Force Awakens, speculations abound. She is rumored to be a heroine on the light side of the force, but given the film’s notoriously tight-lipped cast and crew, we will likely have to remain in the dark until its long awaited December 18, 2015 release date.
